Zorin OS 17.2: A Customizable and Capable Upgrade for Linux Users

Zorin OS

The latest release in the Zorin OS 17 series, based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, introduces exciting new features and improvements. Touted as the “most capable, customizable, and compatible version yet,” Zorin OS 17.2 brings significant updates to enhance user experience.

New Customization Options

One of the most notable updates is the expanded options in Zorin Appearance, the OS’s dedicated customization tool. Users can now change the cursor theme directly within the app, making personalization easier than ever. Additionally, the theme section provides a helpful guide for restyling apps that use libadwaita, thanks to an exclusive Zorin OS patch.

For users looking to install third-party themes, Zorin OS 17.2 allows easy installation of external themes, giving even more flexibility.

Enhanced Windows Behavior and Interface Settings

Zorin OS 17.2 also introduces a new “Windows” section in Zorin Appearance. This addition gives users control over how application windows behave, including options for default placement and titlebar settings. The interface panel now includes the ability to enable or disable overlay scrollbars, making it easier for users to customize their scrolling experience.

Updated Software and Hardware Support

Zorin OS 17.2 comes with the latest LibreOffice 24.8, ensuring that productivity needs are met with up-to-date software. The inclusion of the Ubuntu 24.04 HWE Linux kernel (version 6.8) provides better hardware support, including compatibility with Intel Core Ultra, AMD Zen 5 CPUs, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPUs.

The kernel update also improves support for a variety of peripherals, including Lenovo laptop keyboards, Logitech devices, and game controllers.

Zorin OS Editions: Core vs. Pro

Zorin OS 17.2 is available in two main editions:

  • Zorin OS Pro: A paid version that offers additional pre-installed software, enhanced desktop layouts, and access to support. It’s aimed at users looking for a premium experience and want to support the Zorin project.
  • Zorin OS Core: A free version designed for basic use. It includes fewer pre-installed apps and extensions but remains a streamlined option for new users or those looking for simplicity.

How to Upgrade

Existing users of Zorin OS 17 or 17.1 can upgrade to version 17.2 using the Software Updater. New users can download Zorin OS from the official website. The Zorin OS 17 series will receive updates and security patches until June 2027, ensuring long-term support.
