Fwupd 2.0

Fwupd 2.0 has been officially released, bringing crucial updates to Linux firmware management. This new version offers several exciting features, improved device support, and notable performance boosts.

First, Fwupd 2.0 introduces a configuration option to ignore firmware requirements during development, making testing smoother. Additionally, a new API allows the GNOME Firmware app to upload reports seamlessly. Moreover, this update includes support for detecting Bluetooth devices via GATT service UUID and introduces enhancements to EFI FFS3 volumes.

Fwupd 2.0 also provides support for a wide range of new hardware. This includes devices like Lenovo Legion HID2, Dell K2 docks, AMD Kria SoM, and more. These additions expand the utility’s capabilities, helping users manage a broader array of devices. Also, with support for CRC-32 and CRC-16 types, the utility enhances error-checking mechanisms, boosting reliability.

The update brings significant architectural changes as well. Fwupd 2.0 removes outdated legacy signing formats and streamlines memory usage to enhance performance. The removal of deprecated CLI tools and the switch to modern alternatives like sysfs make the software more efficient.

Lastly, this release addresses many bugs, further improving stability and security. To benefit from these new features, users should update Fwupd through their Linux distribution’s package manager or download it from the project’s GitHub page.
