NVIDIA has released version 575 of its Linux graphics driver, introducing Smooth Motion support along with major performance fixes, especially for Wayland and gaming-related crashes. This is a new-feature branch update, available for Linux, BSD, and Solaris systems.
The highlight of this release is Smooth Motion, a feature aimed at enhancing playback fluidity, especially useful for media apps and video content.
The driver now supports GLX front buffer rendering on Xwayland, improving compatibility with older OpenGL apps in newer Wayland environments.
The environment variable __NV_DISABLE_EXPLICIT_SYNC
now also applies to GLX and Vulkan apps, giving users broader control over synchronization behavior.
A new kernel module parameter, conceal_vrr_caps
, helps bypass VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) compatibility issues on displays where VRR features are problematic.
With NVIDIA 575, the nvidia-powerd
daemon has been updated to support Dynamic Boost when laptops are running on battery power, improving GPU performance without external power.
Also, the driver now trims whitespace from product names passed to GPU audio devices via EDID-Like Data (ELD), and adds support for COLOR_ENCODING and COLOR_RANGE DRM properties.
This update brings a large number of critical bug fixes, including:
Fix for Marvel Rivals crashing on startup or while loading
Resolved Minecraft crashes under Xwayland
Fixed hangs in apps using VK_KHR_present_wait
on Wayland
Resolved issues with PRIME Render Offload using NVIDIA as both source and sink
Fixed broken VRR when using edid_override
Fixed missing TGP values in nvidia-settings
on battery
Resolved GNOME Night Mode display freezes on Wayland
Fixed KDE Frameworks 6 render-offload crashes
Addressed memory leaks in OpenGL/Vulkan apps post suspend/resume
Fixed black screens due to PRIME Display Offload sink stalling
Additionally, support for several deprecated DRM properties has been removed on Linux kernels older than 6.8 to avoid exceeding property limits.
NVIDIA 575.57.08 is available now for:
64-bit Linux (x86_64 & ARM64)
FreeBSD (64-bit)
Solaris (x86/x64)
This release is recommended for all users, especially those using Wayland desktops, laptops with Dynamic Boost, or experiencing game crashes.
