NVIDIA 580.105.08 Driver Released with Major Bug Fixes for Linux, BSD & Solaris

nvidia

NVIDIA has officially rolled out the 580.105.08 graphics driver, delivering a wave of fixes and improvements for Linux, BSD, and Solaris systems. As part of the latest 580 production branch, this version focuses on stability, gaming performance, and better GPU control.

New CUDA Performance Control Option

A key highlight in this release is the introduction of the CUDA_DISABLE_PERF_BOOST environment variable. By default, NVIDIA GPUs automatically boost to higher power states when running CUDA workloads. Now, users can disable this boost by setting the variable to 1.

This addition allows developers and system administrators to fine-tune GPU performance and power efficiency, especially in controlled computing environments or multi-GPU setups.

Important Fixes for VFIO, HDMI, and Gaming Stability

The NVIDIA 580.105.08 update resolves several critical issues:

  • Fixed a vfio-pci module soft lockup occurring after powering off virtual machines with passed-through NVIDIA GPUs.

  • Addressed game crashes in Rage 2 (when loading the game menu) and Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition.

  • Corrected a bug that caused HDMI displays to remain blank after unplugging and reconnecting.

  • Fixed VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) being incorrectly enabled on unsupported display modes, which could cause black screens.

These fixes improve both virtualization reliability and gaming performance across Linux-based systems.

Display and HDMI Enhancements

This release also corrects a regression that prevented HDMI FRL (Fixed Rate Link) from functioning properly after hot replug events. NVIDIA 580.105.08 restores support for ultra-high resolutions and refresh rates — including 7680x2160p@240Hz — over HDMI FRL and DisplayPort.

These improvements ensure smoother playback, better multi-monitor handling, and enhanced compatibility with modern 4K and 8K displays.

Availability and Downloads

The NVIDIA 580.105.08 driver is available for download as a binary installer for:

  • 64-bit and AArch64 (ARM64) GNU/Linux distributions

  • 64-bit FreeBSD systems

  • 32-bit and 64-bit Solaris systems

As the latest production branch release, NVIDIA recommends version 580.105.08 for all users seeking maximum stability and performance.
