Parrot OS 6.2 Released: New Tools and Features for Ethical Hacking
Parrot Security has officially launched Parrot OS 6.2, the latest version of its Debian-based distribution tailored for ethical hacking and penetration testing. This update, arriving over four and a half months after Parrot OS 6.1, introduces exciting new features, notably the Rocket tool, designed to simplify the use of security tools through Docker containers.
Introducing Rocket: Streamlined Tool Management
The new Rocket application allows users to effortlessly launch Docker containers for various security tools available in the Parrot OS repository on Docker Hub. Written entirely in Python and utilizing PyQt6 for its graphical user interface, Rocket streamlines the process of managing security tools. According to the developers, “Instead of typing and downloading a specific tool, through Rocket you can select a tool from the list, and then downloading the Docker image and launching the container is taken care of by the application.” While optimized for Parrot OS, Rocket is also compatible with other distributions.
Updated Hacking Tools
In addition to Rocket, Parrot OS 6.2 features updates to several key hacking tools. Users will find:
- Airgeddon 11.30
- Anonsurf 5.0.0
- Maltego 4.7.0
Moreover, significant updates have been made to the parrot-tools metapackages, which encompass categories such as cloud, crypto, forensics, infogathering, reversing, web, and wireless tools.
Download and Upgrade Options
For those interested in trying out the latest version, Parrot OS 6.2 is now available for download in three flavors: Security Edition, Home Edition, and Hack The Box Edition. The operating system runs on Linux kernel 6.10, which has recently reached its end of life, while the Raspberry Pi images are based on Linux 6.6 LTS.
This release primarily targets new installations. However, existing users can easily upgrade their installations by running the following command in a terminal:
