We are responsible for managing and maintaining VMware environments, including vSphere and ESXi hosts. They handle tasks such as virtual machine deployment, configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting, ensuring that the virtual infrastructure operates efficiently, securely, and with minimal downtime. Their expertise is crucial in optimizing resources, maintaining high availability, and supporting the virtualized needs of an organization.
- Installing and configuring ESX Servers, vSphere Client, and vCenter Server environments.
- Adding ESXi hosts to vCenter and organizing them into clusters for efficient resource management.
- Creating, configuring, and managing virtual machines, including assigning CPU, memory, disk, and network resources.
- Installing and configuring guest operating systems on virtual machines.
- Developing VM templates to streamline and standardize the deployment of new virtual machines.
- Cloning virtual machines for purposes such as testing, development, or production use.
- Creating, managing, and deleting snapshots to maintain VM states during upgrades or maintenance.
- Monitoring the performance of VMs and hosts using vSphere Client, vCenter, and other performance monitoring tools.
- Identifying and troubleshooting performance issues related to CPU, memory, disk I/O, and network resources.
- Restoring virtual machines from backups (using Veeam) in the event of data loss or corruption.
- Managing user roles and permissions in vCenter to ensure appropriate access control.
- Implementing and managing VMware High Availability (HA) to reduce downtime in the event of host failures.
- Configuring VMware Fault Tolerance (FT) to ensure continuous availability of critical VMs in case of hardware failures.
- Performing instant recovery of full virtual machines using Veeam.
- Conducting P2V migrations using VMware Standalone Converter.
- Troubleshooting and resolving VMware-related issues, including those involving vCenter, vSphere, and vRealize Operations (vROps).
- Assigning LUNs to ESX hosts to manage storage.
- Conducting regular health checks for VMs and ESX hosts to ensure optimal performance.
- Deploying virtual machines and managing clones, snapshots, and templates.
- Creating and managing datastores for VM and data storage.
- Planning and executing patching and upgrades to maintain system security and performance.
- Monitoring overall system performance and taking proactive measures to address any issues.
