4MLinux 46 Released: New Apps, LAMP Server Included

2 min read

The 4MLinux team has officially released 4MLinux 46, the latest stable version of this minimalistic Linux distribution. This new release brings a range of updates and improvements, continuing the tradition of offering a lightweight yet powerful operating system.

4MLinux 46

Integrated LAMP Server in 4MLinux 46 #

One of the most notable features in 4MLinux 46 is the integration of the 4MServer edition into the main 4MLinux release. This means that users can now set up a lightweight HTTP/FTP server directly from the 4MLinux ISO. The server setup utilizes technologies like BusyBox, Apache, MariaDB, PHP, Perl, Python, and Ruby, eliminating the need to download a separate ISO image. As a result, this makes the setup process even more efficient.

New Features and App Support #

This version is powered by the Linux 6.6 LTS kernel and the Mesa 24.0.4 graphics stack, ensuring robust performance and compatibility. Moreover, new features include support for RAW image files from digital cameras such as CRW/CR2, NEF, RAF, and DNG formats. Additionally, 4MLinux 46 now handles Windows Enhanced Metafiles (EMF) and includes new applications like DVDAuthor, VCDImager, and qv4l2.

Furthermore, support for older audio formats from Amiga, Commodore, and similar platforms has been improved. The 4MLinux GamePack now includes the classic GNU Go game, providing more entertainment options for users. On top of that, modern applications are well-supported thanks to the newly implemented GTK 4 toolkit.

Updated Default Applications #

4MLinux 46 comes with a suite of updated applications to meet users’ everyday needs. Some of the key updates include:

  • LibreOffice 24.8
  • AbiWord 3.0.5
  • GIMP 2.10.38
  • Gnumeric 1.12.57
  • Mozilla Firefox 124.0
  • Google Chrome 128.0.6613.84
  • Mozilla Thunderbird 115.12.2
  • Audacious 4.4
  • VLC 3.0.21
  • SMPlayer 24.5.0
  • Wine 9.12

These updates ensure that users have access to the latest and most stable versions of their favorite tools. In addition, they provide enhanced functionality and performance.

4MLinux 46 is available in both Full and Core editions. You can download it from the official 4MLinux website. This release is designed exclusively for 64-bit systems and features JWM (Joe’s Window Manager) as its default graphical environment, offering a lightweight and efficient user experience.

Whether you’re a developer needing a lightweight server environment or a user looking for a minimalistic desktop, 4MLinux 46 delivers a versatile and reliable option. Therefore, it’s an excellent choice for anyone seeking a simple yet effective Linux distribution.
